When it comes to wholes in the ground in The Gate, I Think you have to jump then press repeatedly as if you were Walking in the air. I think between the two of us, assuming it was you that I chatted with about this, we figured out something that worked sometimes, but it never worked well enough for me to actually make progress in the game.
