Windows has a find command that would have to be used repeatedly since windows lost the cursor and that would be a real pain playing something like nethack and empire. The gray delete key in linux with espeak running can give you cursor coordinates but those cursor coordinates aren't necessarily always matched to the position of the @ character in nethack. Another couple problems are screen size recognized by windows and linux. If that could be restricted to 24x80 that might be a small amount of help in limiting real estate necessary to search. A dos emulator under linux playing nethack may help but I haven't researched that yet.
