And now I actually have a clue about these. Thank you!

Standard deviation is a little trickier to explain, but here you go
Let’s say you have five friends and you want to know how far their ages are
from the average age.
Friend A: 8 years old
Friend B: 10 years old
Friend C: 9 years old
Friend D: 11 years old
Friend E: 7 years old
First, calculate the average age:
(8 + 10 + 9 + 11 + 7) / 5 = 9 years
Now, calculate the differences between each friend’s age and the average age:
A: 8 - 9 = -1
B: 10 - 9 = 1
C: 9 - 9 = 0
D: 11 - 9 = 2
E: 7 - 9 = -2
Next, square each of those differences:
A squared: (-1)^2 = 1
B squared: 1^2 = 1
C squared: 0^2 = 0
D squared: 2^2 = 4
E squared: (-2)^2 = 4
Now, find the average of these squared differences:
(1 + 1 + 0 + 4 + 4) / 5 = 2
Finally, take the square root of this average to get the standard deviation:
√2 ≈ 1.41
So, the standard deviation is about 1.41 years. This means the ages of your
friends are spread out by around 1.41 years on average from the mean age of 9
years.
Variance is another way to measure how spread out or dispersed a set of data
points is from the mean (average) value. It’s actually closely related to the
concept of standard deviation.
Variance is calculated by taking the average of the squared differences between
each data point and the mean. In other words, it tells you how much the data
points vary from the average, and it gives you a single number that represents
this variation. Just like with standard deviation, a higher variance means more
spread out data points, and a lower variance means less spread out data points.
Variance is used in statistics to help understand the overall variability in a
dataset.
Let’s use the same example of your friends’ ages to calculate the variance.
Friend A: 8 years old
Friend B: 10 years old
Friend C: 9 years old
Friend D: 11 years old
Friend E: 7 years old
First, calculate the average age:
(8 + 10 + 9 + 11 + 7) / 5 = 9 years
Now, calculate the differences between each friend’s age and the average age:
A: 8 - 9 = -1
B: 10 - 9 = 1
C: 9 - 9 = 0
D: 11 - 9 = 2
E: 7 - 9 = -2
Next, square each of those differences:
A squared: (-1)^2 = 1
B squared: 1^2 = 1
C squared: 0^2 = 0
D squared: 2^2 = 4
E squared: (-2)^2 = 4
Now, find the average of these squared differences:
(1 + 1 + 0 + 4 + 4) / 5 = 2
So, the variance is 2. This number represents how much the ages vary from the
mean age of 9 years.
Remember, variance is closely related to standard deviation. In fact, the
standard deviation is simply the square root of the variance. So, if you take
the square root of 2, you’ll get the standard deviation of about 1.41 years,
just like we calculated earlier.
Let’s use the same example of your friends’ ages to calculate the coefficient
of variation.
Friend A: 8 years old
Friend B: 10 years old
Friend C: 9 years old
Friend D: 11 years old
Friend E: 7 years old
First, calculate the average age:
(8 + 10 + 9 + 11 + 7) / 5 = 9 years
Next, calculate the standard deviation. We previously calculated this to be
about 1.41 years.
Now, calculate the coefficient of variation:
[ CV = \left( \frac{\text{Standard Deviation}}{\text{Mean}} \right) \times 100 ]
[ CV = \left( \frac{1.41}{9} \right) \times 100 \approx 15.67% ]
So, the coefficient of variation for your friends’ ages is approximately
15.67%. This means that the ages vary by about 15.67% relative to the mean age
of 9 years.
Hope this helps

Hi all
I need help with a mini game in the intelectual world in crazy party called
statistical calculation.
I haven't learned to calculate statistics in school, so I even don't have
an idea what most of the different types mean.
I get the first 3 right:
Group size refers to the number of bots who played the game.
Lets say there is 4 bots so I choose 4 in the group size column.
Minimum and Maximum means the bot with the lowest and the bot with the
highest score.
But I don't know what the others mean.
average
range :
mode :
median
variance :
standard deviation :
coefficient of variation
Is it possible to calculate these statistics in excel?
Or else if you can give me a method to calculate it mentally that would
also work.
Many thanks for any help
