If I were doing that in orgmode, I think templates would get useful fast
to standardize notes formats.  That's possible with standard tags and
associated fields. Beginnings of records would have tags identifying the
record type ((room)1) could be the tag for room 1 and ((player)george)
could be a tag identifying a player A date stamp within a player's record
and ((room)1) could show where the player is on a particular date. All of
that's possible in orgmode.  A specific help list for orgmode exists and
writing to that list could get a large amount of help if you're willing to
use orgmode.
