Hi Sarah, Don't hold your breath. It will be years, before I make anything interestin, and chances are it will only be interesting to me. Besides, doing calculations are not hard. It is simple arithmetic, and the only thing you would have to get a handle on is knowing what to add on which roll. Just keep up a text program running on the background and switch back to it with any reference notes. I would then load and use GMA dice roller all the time depending on how many programs I had running at the same time. The dice roller is pretty simple with good instructions. You can preset the F keys for your common rolls. like 1d20,I don't think you can add in more complex formulas, but if you play your character for a while, it will be old hat.
crash course: For d and D there is the golden rule. The higher the roll the better the result. BAB is base attack bonus. Every character has one as listed in the srd's. This number is added to all attack rolls. Strength modifier is added to all melee attack rolls as well. It is also used in damage rolls with weapons Dexterity modifier is used with ranged weapons attack rolls On your sheet, you would add all these modifiers and bab bonuses together to get one number for a total attack bonus. This way there is no calculations every time you swing a club at someone. example: you have a fighter. she has an 18 for strength this is a +4 mod. You have a 16 dexterity, this is a +3 mod. Your first level, a BAB for a first level fighter is +1 So your total for melee attacks is +5, for ranged it is +4. Of course other things might apply, but these are added in already by you as you set up your character. Very rarely would you have to throw in a number beyond what is already prepared on your sheet. These kind of things would be immediate circumstances, like fighting on a slippery surface, or trying to swing a weapon while laying on your back... saving throws, and initiative are the same way. Very rarely do you have to mess with unprepared numbers. In addition, those numbers are generally + or minus two or four. Of curse I have never played a message board game, and it does sound intimidating to me too. Not so much the roles, but looking like an idiot. In honesty, I am not sure what a message board is, compared to this list. Or is it the same thing? I am learning something new everyday concerning using the computer, and this list , or message board, or whatever it is called, has taught me a heck of a lot. allan ----- Original Message ----- From: "FigureInTheCloak" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Friday, January 20, 2006 1:43 PM Subject: Re: audyssey: Roll Playing Games. > Yes please!
