Hi Michael,
In reflection I think James North's biggest mistake was actually giving
out a date to look forward to. In the end that allowed many customers to
be let down and crushed. Especially, since so many of them had pre-paid
in advance for the games, and then wanted a return on their money.
As one of the insiders of what was going on I understood the kind of
issues James was facing, and why he eventually called it quits. However,
the community did not see the behind the scenes issues, and drew it's
own conclusions about what was going on. That lack of info is still
being felt today.
I know when Alchemy Game Studios was in it's death throws, and I decided
to take on the two games James and I came to terms rather quickly.
Eventually, James did not want to be berdoned with the games any more, I
would take them and finish them, provided James got to keep the
pre-order money as payment for the source code, any future help, etc...
That seamed in my book fair. In the end all the pre-order customers will
get the games they paid for, James got to keep the money, and I get to
own the games and program them from now on.
With the games in my hands it is not a question of weather or not I can
make them as good as James would have, but when I can get them ready to
go. I think James understood that, and he knew I could pull through with
completing these games. That is why he let them go with the deal he did.
Already the new engine I am working on has a good portion of the level
one written. The temple looks the same as it always did, but I did add
some new environmental effects that I personally thought sounded more
fitting for the game. Other than that the production is going well.
