Michael, I do not disagree that life happens, and that when you are the
company, when life happens to you, things need to slide. I think this
means that if one is going to ask for the kind of flexibility from one's
customers, one needs to be up front about what is happening. Again, I
point you to people like Thomas Ward, who has kept us in the loop about
what is going on that explains the timing of the release for STFC. I
expect that he will do the same for Montezuma's Revenge and Raceway.
I can't comment upon the tortured status of James' life, nor will I presume
to judge him for the choices he made. I am really trying to keep this
discussion in the realm of the ideal, both to avoid the stupidity of past
"discussions" and because I am a firm believe in moving on and learning
from the past.
Now to the (I think anyway) more interesting aspect of our discussion. As
a tax payer, I absolutely want my tax dollars spent on employment focused
goals rather than leisure-time activities, so I must disagree with the end
of your post. Now, it might be possible to swing a subsidy for a blind
developer as a part of his/her employment goals which would have the
secondary but important effect of providing us with more games.
Clearly there is a level of discontent among the consumer base with the way
things are. There will be a point where that discontent will translate to a
paradigm shift. Hopefully that shift will be towards something that will
enlarge the market and thus enrich the offerings. It waits a developer
with the creativity to find that larger market.
More when I have more time, for now, it's back to work.
