They can get stuff but... Last night I went to the CNIB site and discovered that I could now search and even order on-line however I need a password. There is a 1-800 number but not in the evening or at night and of course the last thing I am thinking of during my working day is to call for assistance so I clicked on the mail link and asked them to e-mail me one.
Apparently they are overwhelmed with such requests or maybe the e-mail clerk is on vacation. According to my understanding though once one has the access you can download e-content directly or read it on-line. If that works, that is real service! I used to enjoy receiving Popular Mechanics too, would really like to have a subscription except the braille gets so bulky and truth is I hardly ever go back. For some reason they discontinued sending it to me in the early '80s I will have to see if I can get that back. Generally it is my wife who gets the talking books and I sort of piggyback on her subscription. I guess among other things I will have to bite the bullet and buy another disk reader. I am not all that excited though about the options except maybe that really expensive one that records, makes coffee and all that but so expensive. I must find that software upgrade for our Victor Classic Plus and see if it's performance can be improved. It always seems to be chiming or turning itself off complaining of low battery. We have all this technology and I suppose someone actually does have time to download, format, upload or transfer, all that stuff required to enable reading with an MP3 player or a Book Currier or Book Port or what ever but I am never that organized particularly in advance. The bookmark capabilities of these new players are wonderful in that Janet and I can read the same book at different points or at least we would be able to if only I could remember all the typing to work it. I can hardly remember how to work the cassette machines and they are now obsolete! Books are so intuitive! Well that is my rant for now.
