Your best bet is to fill the space and preferably with something soft enough that if it moves back toward the house it won't damage the building.
There is probably no good reason why you cannot leave the gap unless it somehow presents a trip hazard though. A tar like product would probably work best, something like an asphalt driveway crack repair material. This will squash if the slab moves toward the house and keep it from damaging the house. I would recommend against filling the space with a concrete repair or even patch which is not extensible.
