Back in the days when I ran cross country in highschool we figured that a good running shoe was good for about 400 miles before the souls wor out completely. Before they wore completely through we would coat the soul with shoe goo and it worked quite well. Don't remember exactly but I suppose we would get about an extra 100 miles or so. worth it considering even back in the late 70's a good running shoe was about $30.00 if I recall.
