Actually I suspect that if the top surface was milled with a slight 
concavity and a mark placed on the rod immediately above the center it might 
be an even better device. Just now, so long as the ball does not rest at 
either end of the track it is about level but that also makes it very 
touchy. The simplicity though is the genius.
