Tom, You would know more about the standards for IR codes, but I know several people who have programmed their various PDAs to be universal remotes for their TV, DVD, Satellite dish, Stereo, and blah blah blah.
You can get freeware to do it. Not that long ago there was a guy who used his laptop to figure out the codes for the TV remote in his hotel room. he was then able to do a whole bunch of stuff that you are not supposed to be able to do, such as look at other people's billing information through the online checkout service. This ain't know internet email hoax either. It was the subject of a blackhat security convention paper. I'll ask our security guys to point me to the paper again. Later. -- Blue skies.
