Hi Geno, 50 feet, how many stories high is your home? My home is a 2 story
dwelling, and at it's highest point it can't be more than 24 to 25 feet. Of
course that might have allot to due to the fact that I'm on a slab, and the
property is pretty level around the house itself. This weekend I'm going to
go check out the various types of gutter guards available. I too will need
to remove them once in awhile due to the small buds from the birch tree and
the dirt and dust that gathers down in the bottoms of the gutters.
Speaking of gutters, when I first bought this home nearly 7 years ago there
is a portion on the back side of the house off one side of the patio where
there is a little roof section just where the breckfast nook area extends
outabout 2 feet beyond the rest of the wall. Well, my brother in law was
out in the back yard when we first moved in, and was amazed to see weeds
growing out of the gutter. So he got a small 7 foot step ladder and went up
there to clean the weeds and dirt out of the gutter. While up there he
said, the people that lived here prior to me, must have filled in the gutter
with dirt and used it as a planter. That's how much dirt was in there.
Afew months later I found out how the dirt got in the gutters. In late
winter to early spring swallows come to this area and build there mud nest
high up the wall where the stucco ends and wood begins under the eve. So
that first year my wife had to go out there every day and spray water up
there to knock down the mud nest and that's how all that dirt got in the
gutters. Once we landscaped our back yard, we had no further problems with
the swallows. Sorry for the long post.
