Had a similar problem. One of 2 problems encountered. First if your opener is a few years old there is a plastic clutch with sprockets that break off and cause the drive to stop pulling the door open.
Second see if the springs have broken. They are either on each side or on the top of the door running the whole length of the top. This is easy to check by disengaging the drive and seeing if you can lift it manually. If you can your springs are fine.
