It's a darned shame as it made a wow of a light probe and was very simple. Unfortunately I don't know of a currently available replacement light to frequency converter, but we should do some research and see if we've missed anything. the circuit for the Smith-Kettlewell light probe is in the Technical file on the web, it is a bit more complex but at least the parts should be easilly available from several electronics distributors.
