I have friends who have what i believe is engineered wood floor
in the kitchen and dining room of a new home.

This is the stuff that snaps together and rides on an underlaying
pad. it isn't fastened down at all except that the base board
holds it in place.

they had a flood when a washing machine broke a hose.

All the engineered flooring was ruined because water got
underneath it and soaked the pad. By the time it could be
removed it was all warped.

Luckilly insurance paid for new floors but what a mess.

they changed to adhesive tiles, which should have used in first
place.

The engineered hardwood is beautiful stuff but i'd not put it in
where water might be an issue.
