Yeah, I agree about learning to tie knots. I have learned a number of 
knots but have always had to feel the process.

As a rock climber, backing up a bowline with a half hitch is absolutely 
necessary.

The coolest knot tieing trick I know is the one handed bowline. Very cool 
and fast. The double fishermans is a great knot, and I always backup the 
tails with a half hitch on that one as well.

the one knot I really wish I could remember to tie is the taughtline 
hitch. You basically get a long loop and the knot at the base of the loop 
can be slid up and down to adjust the length of the loop but tightens up 
under tension. It is great for adjusting the tension on a tent line.
