My wife had that idea this summer when we were cutting  boards on the table
saw which was finished on both sides and now that I think about it that did
work very well.

A strip of masking tape along the intended cut to be sawn through will also
do a good job. Cross cutting particularly Oak is difficult because it is
very hard.

You are a more patient man than me to cut three times!
