Hi,

We had the road side assistant people do that yesterday. He pounded on the
hood while my mom was pulling the handle to pop the hood.

Hi Otis,

Try tapping the front of the hood where the area of the latch would be with
the palm of your hand,

This will sometimes dislodge the latch and allow for it to pop.

Don't be afraid to use some force on it, as it might take some force to
break what ever is keeping the latch from unsticking.

The problem is that you don't know if it's frozen or if it's rusted .

Either way, that tapping should be able to release it enough that it'll pop.

If you find that it won't budge, even after you've pounded it several times,

try taking a blow dryer on it's hottest setting to the front of the hood,
followed by some well pointed hot air through the front grill, aiming in an
upward direction to see if you can release it.

Another option is using a key de-icer on it.

You can get these at any service station or hardware store.

They often come with a small straw that you can insert in the groove where
the latch is.

Spray a liberal amount of the de-icer into the space with the straw and if
it is frozen, this should work to melt it.

If this doesn't work, try the WD-40 option spraying a liberal amount into
the groove.

Hope this helps.

Victor
