You can't use it on a left bladed saw because the shoe clamps are fixed to the right end of the leading edge of the bar and the sliding guide is formed to follow the edge of the work at the left. As for not having to remove the guide for cross cutting I haven't figured that out yet myself. Perhaps the sliding fence is removable but it didn't seem to want to come off of mine.
Removing it though isn't a lot of trouble for us, a little more for sighted people because there is a notch which should line up with the blade so that the ruler is accurate. since we can't use the ruler it doesn't matter as much. I tried setting mine up using the straight edge of a carpenters square along the blade but with my best shot I found the ruler to be off when I used the distance from the edge of the notch to the fence so I use the distance from the inside edge of the blade to the fence and got a good measure. It would be frustrating to have to set that up accurately each time the fence is removed but if that isn't important then just releasing two threaded bolts a couple of turns removes the guide. In the end I don't care for it all that much, I am fairly happy clamping a straight edge. I wouldn't have bought it at all except that it came on sale here at Canadian Tire for under 20 bucks. I don't mind risking 20 bucks, feel a little more anxious about 50 bucks though.
