You will have to get flood insurance which can be expensive. Dealing with floods can be quite the hassle, ask the folks who used to live in New Orleans. You may want to do some research about that flood zone. Is it a 10 year flood zone, 25 year, 100 year? How long has it been since the last flood? Are floods just wet basements? Or are these major fill the first floor of the house floods?
I own a house in Florida that is technically in a flood zone. It is not in a low lying area, although no where in Florida is high. It is 30 miles from the coast. and there has not been a measurable flood there since they have been keeping records there.
