take it to a guitar teck, and have him show you fretless necks, pick one 
you like from what they say will fit your bass year model and have it 
swapped out. Swap out the fancy hardware you may hae put in, like tunors 
to the new neck and let him sell your fretted neck to someone who wants 
one inexpensive.
There was a crazy good article on here once about a guy who was refretting 
his guitar neck. it isn't for the newby.
As an owner of the Rick stereo bass, and now a full bodied Steinberg, I'd 
really say "don't mess up a fine neck when Fenders are common enough that 
I'm sure a Fretless exists for that model.
De Pinto's in Philadelphia has done good work for me.
