I think either glue would work, but since bats can't touch the super glue the hide glue would do better. Probably even elmers or other white glues would work if there is just enough glue to do the job and not so much as to be seen.
I havn't tried this technique because I can't imagine not getting glue and saw dust all over everything. I've fixed chipped ebony boards in fiddles by carving out the chipped space to a relatively even shape and then making a new ebony chip that fits but is just slightly high when glued in.
