How many inches of dirt do you have to add? If you are adding several
inches, such as 6 or more, I would not place down the plastic and rock until
the dirt has settled for a few weeks. Then, re-level, making it slope away
from the house and add the plastic and rock. If you don't, you will have
dips and high places in your rock area due to settling. You would only need
the plastic and rock about three feet from the house where the water is
running off. DO NOT place the dirt up on the siding. Keep the dirt
approximately 4 inches from all termite eating materials, such as wood. I
like the idea of the porous plastic material, but don't know how fast it
absorbs. Fill in those low places within 12 feet from the house.

Rick probably has a valid concern about the mold but I would still use the
plastic. The landscaping fabric will get saturated. Use more gravel at the
top of the grade than at the bottom.

Hi:

Thanks for the feedback:

Answers to your questions:
How far does your overhang extend? some areas about a foot, others where
there is no rain gutter about six or so inches.

What kind of soil does your yard now have? Gumbo and crap. we have really
shitty soil. When it is wet, it sticks to everything, when dry, it is hard as
a rock! It is really sandy to the touch as well, we are in the river
bottom.
How much of a grade are you going to give the new dirt? Good question, Some
areas are likely going to have more of a grade than others do to settling.
How much rain do you get? Well, we are in the midst of a drought, but we
have gotten about 4 1/2 inches of rain this month.

Thanks for the questions! I was thinking of just some landscaping plastic.

Jeff
