not sure about all states but most when selling make you update it to current building codes. Some will let the sell as is go through, but even that is iffy. To find your building code info. Go to your court house or town hall of records. Ask them for the current building codes list. That will give you a idea of what is now and what was from looking at your house now. The only way to get around the code upgrade in a sell is to sell to a relative. If in the family your not expected to code up. Only when selling to unknown persons or real estate people.
