Hi Edward,

As for glue, probably something simple like white carpenters glue or even
mucilage (the sort of paper glue kids often use for crafts) would be adequate.
The trouble is that the gypsum under the paper will almost certainly be punky
and soft. Regardless of the amount of work involved I am fairly confident that
making a proper repair will ultimately be preferable. Further, I would be
interested in seeing what is now behind there. Is it possible that moisture has
collected there in the past just not come through? What condition is the
structure in and the insulation? things like that.

You may well have to stipple over the ceiling again after the patch but that
will clean it up anyway and a new paint job always makes something of a face
lift.

  Subject: [BlindHandyMan] Drywall question

  Hi all,

A while back, I had some water come through my roof due to an ice block.
This caused some damage to the ceiling and a wall in my family room. There
is a patch about one square foot on the wall where the outer paper on the
drywall has bubbled. I hate to cut out a portion of the wall and then have
to cover the hole with a new piece of drywall if not necessary. Could I
simply cut the paper bubble off the wall and run a thin coat of plaster to
cover the spot? Are there any reasons anyone can think of not to take this
approach? It certainly would take a great deal less work.

The bubble on the ceiling is somewhat more complicated. The ceiling is
stippled and I'm told it's very difficult to match the old stippling with
new stippling. My son suggested poking some very small holes in the bubble
and then squirting some glue into the bubble and simply glue it back in
place. We manipulated the bubble a bit and the old stippling does not seem
to be crumbling and falling off the bubbled paper. Do you think this stands
a chance of working? If so, any suggestions for the type of glue to use?
Any ideas for a better way to take care of this problem? As always, any
  help is greatly appreciated.

  Take care,
  Ed
