The door to my office will not shut. The house I live in is old and is
literally leaning to the West. If I hold a piece of string with a weight on
it from the top corner of the door, the weight is off to one side at least a
half an inch.
So what I want to do is to trim the top of the door so it will close. I
think I literally only need to trim less than about a 64th of an inch or so.
I do not have a plane and at this point I don't know if I want to buy one
just for this project unless the price is wright. What I do have is a hand
held jig saw.
I hope I can describe what I am thinking about doing.
Since I am taking off so little material I wonder if it would work if I
approached it with the cutting edge of the blade at an angle tward the wood
and the back of the blade away from the wood and dragged the saw backward.
This way I would essentially be aggressively sanding the wood off the top of
the dorr. I am not sure I want to try to trim it running the blade forward
because I think I would end up just gougeing it and making a reall mess of
things. It does not have to be perfect but I don't want to tare up the door
too badlye.
Any other ideas?
Back to the use of a plane.
If I was to get a hand held plane wide enough to do the job with one pass
how cheepley can I find one. I don't even need a very good one because the
work will not be vissable and I don't really see my self using it all that
often.
