Hi there Dale, Long time no talk..... I agree about the Roberts type screws. They do not strip nearly like those blamed Phillips or slotted ones do. God, I hate those slotted screws with a passion! The star type screws are not bad either. I currently have a Phillips type long screw stuck in a recessed hole which is just about large enough to fit the screw into. I think the only way to get it out is to use a little super glue and glue a Phillips driver to it. The metal is very, very soft and I have tried several different theories on how to get it out. I am afraid to use an Easy Out as the blamed screw is not all that big (diameter) and I am afraid I might twist off the top. Take care and pat them bears for me. (LOL) Cy, the Ancient Okie...

Just right now there is a sale at houseoftools.-com including an air nailer designed for driving nails into joist hangers. The nose is shaped to fit into the holes and it is designed to get into those tight places. Dan might be interested in one for his deck project. All I have ever used is nails but it can be a little awkward sometimes hammering into those confined spaces. they also make palm nailers which I understand make driving those nails easier but I have never seen one in use or used one myself. Hope this is helpful. I seem to remember something about some kind of a wazoo fastener that was superior to the various types of Philips head screws used to fasten joist hangers to ledger boards and plywood to the stringers. On the other hand, I might be mistaking this for an article I read about all of the research that is going into spline drive fasteners and their superiority over traditional hex bolts or Allen drive fasteners. This entire scenario took place about a year ago so forgive the memory laps. Regards Larry Stansifer Thou art rewarded for thy results not for thine efforts.
