Dan, you said" I know I may be going overboard". well as the old saying goes" do it right the first time" Then Sir , you will note that deck will last many many years. whereas if you hired the job done it is not always true. So keep drilling, banging and screwing where you see fit and then in years to come you can still kick back and know what is under you for a finished deck. Lee
