Dear Lee:
    Given that a generator is called on in an emergency most of the time, I 
would go for the best product out there, as any edge in reliability would be 
desirable.  The synthetics take less effort  to keep them  protecting your 
engine.  The costs would also be relatively low, as you would not be changing 
that oil  that frequently.  It might be advisable to call the manufacturer of 
your machine, as there may be a product designed for the engine which runs 
infrequently, but which needs not to stutter when called upon.

Clifford, when you say "high performance" would you consider like a 6500 
generator that might run for 8 hours a high performance engine. I am 
also concerned of what I will put into this nearly new generator. I 
think we have about 26 hours on it. that this machine will often set 
for a month. then we run it just because to plug in a iron or 
something to draw down energy. thanks Clifford and all who have added 
to this thread regarding the alternative way to go. Lee
