Dear Edward:
I don't know what material is used in your laundry shoot, but I would
suggest spraying pledge down on all sides, and then use a mop or any object
which will reach down through the shoot, to wipe the sides. If you suspect
that rust has appeared on a metal liner, you might try 10-w-40, with a follow
up wipe.

If you think lent may have built up, a thorough cleaning with a vacuum
cleaner or a scrubbing with a mop, might just do the trick.
If none of these work, get yourself a rock, just small enough to fit in to
the top of the shoot, rap it with a thin coat of steal wool, and drop that
sucker through the shoot a dozen times.

                Yours Truly,

                Clifford Wilson

Subject: [BlindHandyMan] Laundry Shoot Repair

Hi all,

The laundry shoot in my home is beginning to snag clothing on it's way down
the shoot. Trying to replace the shoot is out of the question since it
would require breaking through some walls. Are there any tools or
techniques that can be used to smoothe the inner walls of a laundry shoot?
Are there inserts made that could replace the inner wall of a shoot without
requiring that the shoot be removed? Any help greatly appreciated.

Take care,
Ed
