Hi Mike,

The shoot runs from the second floor to the basement. It's made of metal
heat duct material. I think over time small snags and nail heads have begun
to protrude from the sides of the shoot and they catch clothing on the way
down the shoot. I've been able to recover the items by dropping a rope down
the shoot, tieing a pillow to the rope and pulling the pillow up through the
shoot.

Your idea about the fiberglass sheeting sounds promising. I'll give the
hardware store a call and see what they have to offer. Thanks.

Take care,
Ed

Well, I don't know how long your shoot is, but when I bought this house we
had a short one from the main floor to the basement. They had used cardboard
and it was in bad shape. We would lose small articles of clothing and have
to reach up from the basement to locate them. I measured it and had the
hardware store cut me some metal that I nailed in. I used duct tape to cover
the edges and it works pretty good.
I used the thin metal so the opening would be the same size and clothes
wouldn't hang up.
Maybe you could do something like that or get some thin panneling material
to cover the snags.
I believe they have fiberglass sheeting that you can get in long strips.
Good luck!

Subject: [BlindHandyMan] Laundry Shoot Repair

Hi all,

The laundry shoot in my home is beginning to snag clothing on it's way down
the shoot. Trying to replace the shoot is out of the question since it
would require breaking through some walls. Are there any tools or
techniques that can be used to smoothe the inner walls of a laundry shoot?
Are there inserts made that could replace the inner wall of a shoot without
requiring that the shoot be removed? Any help greatly appreciated.

Take care,
Ed
