Max, Is your dryer vent hose the metal or the old vinyl? If it is the vinyl 
I would replace it with the metal vent hose.

It looks like we were lucky.  He didn't die in the dryer vent or anywhere in
the house.  I think the dryer vent was a red haring all along.  We tapped up
the flex hose with duck tape and are back to normal.
