Dear List Members:
My brother and I once went to the aid of an aunt who's car stopped on the
highway, roughly ten miles away from our home. When we arrived, a gentleman
was already on scene and helping my aunt. He had the hood up and was trying to
figure out where the trouble lay. He allowed that he would check the battery
to see if it had any fire left in it. He promptly produced a wrench which he
placed on both terminals, to see if he could see a spark. He saw a spark! and
the explosion sounded like dynamite. The sulfuric acid which had been in the
battery was thrown out of the battery through the large cracks that were formed
by the explosion, and those of us who were watching this expert mechanic, were
given a bath. There was no water available, so we grabbed the milk which my
aunt had purchased at the grocers and soaked all of us down, where the acid had
landed. Our clothes were eaten by the acid, and wholes developed quickly.
Thankfully, we were able to prevent any injuries to those of us who were
exposed.
Needless to say, I have had a respect for the power contained in led/acid
batteries, since that experience.
I would follow the advice given to charge one battery at a time. There is
little to be gained and a lot to be lost.

                Yours Truly,

                Clifford Wilson
