Hi Ed, I am not a professional on generators but I can tell you that
since our 6.5 day power outage here in October of 87 we have had two
different generators. the first was a used 3500 watt and the new one
we got over a year ago is a 6500. I will another day feel up this
machine to see if there is a empty lug for a ground wire but I'm
thinking there is not. Our current generator is stored in about a 6
foot long and maybe four feet tall box which I am told by the neighbors
looks like a casket up against the house. when we need to run this
machine we open two front doors wide and turn a key as it is electric
start. as for doing damage to appliances. I suppose that is possible
but since 1987 I still have the same natural gas furnace and a big 18
foot Gibson freezer and a smaller 12 cubic foot freezer which have
run off these generators. I have also run as many as three sump pumps
and a large 22 cubic foot refergirator upstairs and a few houselights
with no problem. I will tell you we rarely run anything directly off
the generator because my brother inlaw has a duplex box in the
basement marked" for emergency use only" once we fire up the generator I
wait about 3 minutes and then flip both of those switchs in the duplex
box up and we have power inside and again no damage to any appliance .
Might I ask with your new generator are you running appliances thru
your main electric box or off from extension cords? thanks Lee, oh, and
I live in Upstate ,NY, just outside Hudson,NY
