Could be that the condenser coils just need cleaned. They do over time accumulate dust. While you are cleaning the coils, examine the fan to make sure it is operating. If that doesn't fix the problem it could be the defrost timer. You can turn it with a screwdriver to see if it is stuck. Turn it clockwise until the refrigerator quits running and see if the refrigerator will start up again on it's own. If it doesn't, turn it clockwise again until the refrigerator starts and leave it there until you can get a replacement defrost timer. If the defrost timer is good you could be low on refrigerant, in which case you will have to decide weather to put money into something that old or replace it with a new unit.

We have had it for about 22 years. The refrigerator and the freezer are not getting as cold as they used too. Also, it seems to be running non stop. Is there something that we can do to remedy the problem? Or, is it just time for us to go ahead and replace it? This is the first problem that we have had out of it in 22 years.
