When I bought my table saw, the guard wouldn't stay up out of the way because it has a metal strip that prevented it from staying up. I took pliers and bent that strip so I could raise the guard for measuring and put the guard down when I am ready to cut. My guard doesn't flop and stays centered so I don't cut holes in it.
