Hi Lary;
Here is my 2 cents.

<<< I always drive a screw half way in an each enc and run a string
> If my math is correct it will be necessary to split the third joist
> thickness in order to accommodate the edges of both sheets of plywood.
> Does this mean I need to trim off a given amount of material on each sheet

<<< no
Is an inch more or less on that third joist sufficient to fasten
the
> adjoining edges of the plywood?
<<< yes, you'll have 3/4 inch to screw into
> What do I do to keep from building in a squeak where the plywood edges butt

<<< Using tounge and groov sub-floor plywood is the besg way and a litle
adheassive along the joints goes a long way.
