There is very little maintenance on a hot water system. It all depends on the type of pump that is on the system. Some you should put a few drops of oil in the oil caps, I used to do this twice a years and never lost a pump. The ones that are sealed and don't have the places to oil, on the average last about 10 years. If the system isn't the newer type, you will have to bleed the system from time to time, and to this you should get a head of the noise in the heating elements and open the bleeder valve until the air stops and water comes out. You may have to open this bleeder more than once. If the system is the newer type, you bleed the system at the boiler, for there are no bleeders else where in the system. To do this, you should close the valve just below the main water feeding valve and open the zone valve, manualy in the zone you wish to bleed. Than open the faucet just above the feeder valve. I usually put a hose on this valve and run it into the floor drain of bucket until the faucet stops spitting air. And for the rest, it is pretty much like a force air system, Except you may have to change a zone valve, or the safety shut off. Never had to do either in the thirty some years I was in the rental business.
