Ron, You read my mind; I'm desperate at this point and am willing to haul buckets of water out, if necessary. Not happy about it, but what can I do? However, I should bring those buckets back up here and just dump them into the toilet or whatever?
I have to dump it outside because there's no sign that any water from any of our sinks, tub, or toilet upstairs is causing the back-up problem. All of your drains have been emptying into your main drain. I take it this floor drain is in a basement. somewhere it runs under the floor and connects to the main. I faced a similiar problem. The plumbers ran a camera down the drain and deterimined the iron pipe had rusted through and dirt and gravel was blocking it. The solution to repair that drain was to jack hammer the concrete floor up to expose the pipe and replace it. Since it was to a shower I did not need I chose to do nothing. In your case if you intend to keep the washer where it is you need some line to drain it into the main. Sawcutting the floor and installing new line is one option. Another a little out in left field is setting a sump, a large container, and installling a sump pump to pump the water over head to where you can break into the main line and dispose of it that way. You might get a couple of plumbers to give you estimates or other ideas. The flexible hose, if you have one large enough might buy you some time or open the drain under the sink and put buckets there and haul it out by hand and dump in the yard temporarly. I hate to be a barer of bad news, but your friend sounds as he is telling you the way it is. You might want to run a manual snake through the pipe and see if you can dislodge the optical by banging on it. But there is that possibility that it could cause more problems by moving it into the main line. Or you might consider running a new floor drain above the floor and connect it to your other waste lines in the house, if possible. That would be the less of the two evils. We've been having difficulty, when washing clothes lately. When we wash, there is a drain underneath the basins, where the hose from the washing machine empties into! That has been backing up, as of late. So, we called a friend who is a plumber, for one of our neighboring cities, and he came out to try to solve our problem! He ran a machine through the main water line, of course, getting out grass and roots, as there are trees, as part of our property! That line was now clean, and water traveled through that, without any problems. However, when he went to put the machine through the drain right underneath the wash basins, he couldn't get it past eight feet; something is stuck there, and he couldn't get it to go any further! His thought was that we might have to break up the floor, to see why that drain is stuck and possibly replace pipe! I don't know much about plumbing, but this doesn't seem to be sewer water or anything like that; I think the water from our kitchen sinks and bathrooms drains into the main water line, so I'm thinking that that isn't the problem! If any of you know of a handyman list to send this to, please let me know! Thanks.
