Dan, another idea for you.
Not sure if this will work or not, because I do not know how your basement
is laid out.
Get some engineered I-beams, lets say 4, or how many you would need to place
them on 8 foot on centers, then run 2x8 between the I-beams. my in-laws
used them on their addition, and they said they are light and strong, 2
people put them in place, and they can span 32 feet without any support.
Get them about 1 or 2 inches less then the width of your basement, then they
will rest on the floor by the walls, and you could put a peer in the center
of some if you wanted.
The ones I have heard about have places already to be knocked out for
plumbing and such. Not sure what size you would need though, or the cost.
Michael
Being glad his basement wasn't this unlevel.
