Claudia, Assuming you're talking about a DSL modem, the filters are supposed to reduce noise from the digital portions of the DSL signal getting into phones.
If you don't notice noise on your voice calls, an the DSL works properly, hang on to the filters in case of future problems and don't worry. If one or another phone seems to be noisy, try a filter. Tom Fowle
