Dear Dan:
I have a friend who has been a car buff for well over fifty years and when
we were younger, we would experiment with a glass quart jar and a temporary
fuel line which we ran to the carburetor on his 55 ford. We figured out how
much more fuel was used when climbing a steep hill, and how little was used on
a level stretch of road.
He told me that he has added acetone to the fuel tank on his Lexis 430,
which is equipped with a V8 engine, and that he has gotten as high as mpg30.
He did warn me to avoid contact with any surfaces, if I decided to give it a
try. I have not done so at this time.
This is the same product which has been used for cleaning carburetors in
the long ago, if this hillbilly's memory serves.
