I have a similar unit and I've never lost any gas. I leave the cartrige in all the time and just remove the battery which I recommend while not in use for more than a week. There is a little light on my unit that indicates charge or some such thing and it seems to drain the battery if it's left for a while. At least if I recall, that is what did it, but in any event I've never had a problem with the gas leaking and I've had this baby for about a year or so.
