Jewl: No, a davenport is a sloping writing desk with various draws, grab holes etc in it. Typical of the sort that were used in banks of old. I have a nice one on my landing here about 1920 made of French Walnut. The spreaders are curved to accommodate a round stool which was typically used with them.
