The one suggestion that I have only do if you can easily replace the socket. The few times that I ran into that problem I cut the power and with my finger slowly raised the center contact. This allows it to make contact with the bulb. I learned this trick as a kid working in a lamp factory. If you are not careful you can break the center contact making it necessary to replace the socket.
