The best tool is a subjective thing.

There is a Burns-o-matic torch which I do not yet own but which has a trigger
ignition which also starts and stops the gas flow. This should be about as good
as it gets for the blind. They are about 45 bucks as a kit here including a
bottle of propane. There are probably other brands but these are available here
from Canadian Tire and other hardware distributors.

Next big step up is a trigger ignited torch on a hose which connects to a floor
mounted bottle which is what the professionals use. I have used one once with
the guidance of a professional plumber but they are likely way more money than
the week-end warrior will want to spend and at that size, probably not all that
convenient for small occasional jobs.

There are electric induction systems however there are also good reasons why
they are not used for plumbing insitu. They seem to be used mostly in
production fabrication.

Hope this is helpful.

This may seem like a dum question but what is the best tool for soldering
pipes? I know that most people use a torch so which brand is the best and
where do you get it? If there is an electric tool that will do this, again
what brand and where do you get it?
