If you have a very deep basement where the windows are below the surrounding yard, window wells help to keep water from entering the windows and I suppose to keep the yard from moving in too. They have loose gravel or rock to allow for drainage of the water that comes in to the well and some sort of system to remove the water from that area. This is the first house I have owned when has the well. We put covers over them when we moved here, but still the water can get in the well and other junk like leaves and what not. I need to check out some other form of covering that might eliminate that problem. The biggest problem we have around here is several maple trees which fill up the guttering and if we don't that cleaned out then the water pours over and straight down to the wells. When the water pours in to the house, we think about all the ways to prevent it, then, good old Kansas goes in to it's dry period and we forget about it until the next rainy season, smile! I did clean out my gutters this morning as we are expected to have severe storms this afternoon and maybe a couple more inches of rain, so maybe it will help. Guess I will just have to put on some gloves and pluck the crap out of the wells.

What is a window well and how often do I need to clean one out? Jennifer ----- Original Message ----- From: Lee A. I keep wanting to buy snap on screens which I know home depots hafve but have not spent the bucks yet.
