Jennifer, I am sure by now this has been answered but let me give you my
take on this. Our home sits on somewhat of a flat piece of property and
we have a high water table . when this house was refurbished in 1978
by the previous owner all new basement walls had been constructed and
back filled but I thought we were still having to much water laying or
even running in by our cellar windows. so we bought what I call a metal
window well. It is a half moon shape and this well. has sort of a
flange on each side which sets flush with the concrete on each side of
the window. I am guessing now but I think it is about 16 inches tall .
but I'll measure it one day this week. Okay now with this metal well se
up against the wall of the house it in fact forms a well, between the
inside edge of what I just installed and the basement window. . with
this done we can now add more soil around it, thus helping with an
angle or sloping of the soil to in effect drain water further from the
house. . what the original question was is how do I clean out this well.
at the base of my well is just soil and some small pea stone but others
may have concrete. Now a slight twist to this is what else can be done
to help drainage but in another way it can be used as a decoration to
offset a garden which might surround a basement window. I might have
made this even more confusing and if so just call me and I 'll give
you a great suggestion like to go a Lowes or HOme depot or something
similar and tell them you want to see one of their window wells. . with
all that said. Have a great day. Lee
