For a very long time there has been a small, intermittent leak at the point where the bolt holds the tank to the bowl of the toilet. There are two such bolts, only one is a problem at this point. The head of the bolt is large and slotted. Under this is a washer of a plastic or rubber material that is badly deteriorated. The bolt then goes through the tank, the back of the bowl, and there is a washer and nut which holds it all tight. Well, obviously since there was a leak it wasn't holding things exactly tight any more. On the other hand, it was an intermittent problem with a tiny drip that a small container handled for extended periods of time. Having had a successful morning last Wednesday, I decided I'd maybe take a chance at tightening the bolt and nut. Well, the moral here is never dislodge a bit of rust that's, like the little Dutch boy, holding its metaphorical finger in the dike. I'm not sure one can call the result a leak, more of a sub-spurt. Anyway, applications of liquid wrench and of WD40 have both failed to loosen the nut bolt partnership. My efforts to break this union have left me feeling flushed and embarrassed with my failure. I think these are held by the kind of rust usually reserved for super glue. Before I call the plumber and let him/her get frustrated, has anyone a suggestion for dissolving a nut-bolt marriage gone rusty over time? Ron Denis
